ICANN, the Internet's key oversight committee, held a conference in Paris the week of June 23, 2008 and voted to allow the influx of a seemingly limitless amount of new top level domains (TLDs). They also approved a proposal that would allow for public comment on the issue of web addresses in non-English languages. The ramifications of such changes are huge and we aim to address all of them in this article.  Discuss (1)

I've been saying for years that the Internet is too slow. Right now, it takes at least an hour for me to download an illegally pirated movie. I can't think of anything more backwards and unjust. So it's with great pleasure that I announce to you the coming of “The Grid,” a new computer service designed to make Internet connections 10,000 times faster than broadband. Have I got your attention? Good. Come join me inside.  Discuss (1)

Suppose your ISP is interjecting its own content into the sub-domain of your website. What if your ISP is so focused on profiting that it’s compromising your security? Certainly, you can’t fault the ISP for making as much profit as possible. But security is a pivotal issue on the Internet, and it cannot be ignored.

Every so often we run into a situation where a traditional static DNS doesn’t satisfy our needs. That’s when Dynamic DNS (DDNS) enters the picture. In this article we are going to cover the basics of dynamic DNS to solve those frustrating situations when the IP of our server tends to change periodically, even though our domain name ought to redirect to the correct IP. Always.  Discuss (3)

Administering and managing websites might sound like a tough task that requires a myriad of professional knowledge about servers and networking. However, this does not apply to hosting services that are powered by cPanel. Just as its name suggests, cPanel is a web-based web-hosting control panel with a really user-friendly and straightforward interface designed to make website administration easier.

Reviewing web hosts is hard. There is little to differentiate one from another, and bad reviews can lead to chain reactions from which the web host being reviewed may not recover or may lose money. With the commoditized nature of the business, small differences in service can lead to large differences noticed by observers. This article continues our series of web host reviews.  Discuss (9)

April 7, 2008 marked the launch of Google's newest project, Google App Engine. For years, web developers have basically had two choices when it came to building applications: host it on their own or use Amazon Web Services. Well, Google has now issued their response in the form of a full-stack, hosted, automatically scalable web application.  Discuss (2)

Have you ever tried to explain yourself to someone, but for whatever reason, it just wasn't registering? You try breaking it down so that each part is more understandable by itself than as a whole. This sounds a lot like trying to mold your query into a search engine or website database. However, with the Semantic Web well on its way, eloquence as we know it may soon be a thing of the past. Reading on keep, please.  Discuss (1)
